THE TATA GROUP
Founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1868, the Tata group is a global enterprise, headquartered in India, comprising of 30 companies across 10 clusters.
The group operates in more than 100 countries across six continents, with a mission 'To improve the quality of life of the communities we serve globally, through long-term stakeholder value creation based on Leadership with Trust'.
Tata Sons is the principal investment holding company and promoter of Tata companies. Sixty-six percent of the equity share capital of Tata Sons is held by philanthropic trusts, which support education, health, livelihood generation and art and culture.
In 2021-22, the revenue of Tata companies, taken together, was $128 billion (INR 9.6 trillion). These companies collectively employ over 935,000 people.
Board of Directors
Each Tata company or enterprise operates independently under the guidance and supervision of its own board of directors. There are 29 publicly-listed Tata enterprises with a combined market capitalisation of $123 billion (INR 9.3 trillion) as on March 31, 2020.

Tata International is a global trading and distribution company with a network of offices and subsidiaries spanning more than 39 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Our worldwide revenues of US $2.27 billion in FY21 have set us firmly on a path of sustained growth even as we continue to focus on value-added offerings for our customers, backed by strong compliance of global norms within the sectors in which we operate.
Trading
The company trades in metals, minerals and agri products. The metal trading business supports customers in 50 countries and includes steel, metallics and rolls, products for aluminium industry and model mounting systems (solar projects). The minerals trading business aspires to be a significant coal trading operation in India, while the recent foray into agri trading focuses on pulses and sugar in ASEAN.
Distribution
The company distributes Tata Motors vehicles, Jaguar Land Rover luxury vehicles and John Deere tractors and agricultural implements as well as John Deere construction equipment.

Tata International commenced Distribution on operations in Africa in 1969.
Our subsidiary Tata Africa Holdings is a leading channel partner for the distribution of commercial vehicles
in Africa.
We have a network of showrooms and workshops across 12 countries, and a partnership in an assembly plant located in Rosslyn, South Africa. With a good understanding of the local markets, we enhanced our distribution portfolio with the addition of farm machinery, construction and forestry equipment as well as extra heavy commercial vehicles for long hauls.
